Left the house a little after 8 a.m. this morning, with no hat, no gloves, no scarf. It was so cold, the wind had picked up from where it wasn't an hour earlier when I was outside smoking cigarettes to keep from passing out from boredom.
So I rang the door bell and Jim & Juanita's. No answer. Started to trudge on down the road. When Mary Katherine pulled up along side me, asked to where I was going (train station), then offered to buy me a cup of coffee from Einstein's Bagels. Good deal for me. GREAT deal, so I get to tell her the Grandpa Harry story.
Grandpa Harry loved to analyze the trotters. He'd lay out the tout sheets all over the dining room table. Great Grandma Lachel would go by, stop, and then almost spit out these words: "Einstein never worked so hard.!"
After he became totally disabled, he continued to do his analysis, so that every Monday morning, he'd put on his suit and tie and gentleman's top hat, catch the bus to the barber shop where the bookie joint operated in back, and place his $2.00 bet. Give me a reason to live / Just give me a reason to live / You gimmie a reason to live!
The night he died, he awoke, changed into his suit, tie, and top hat. Wanted everything to go smoothly for Grandma Linda.
My grand parents. I am so blessed for having known them so long.
AMEN
At 12:40, Fred and I are about to start trudging up Grove Avenue when a gray van with its headlights bright pulls up beside us. It's mom. She looked at the inbound schedule from Long Lake, and the outbound schedule from Chicago, and figures, this would be the train I'd catch. I introduce her to Fred, with whom almost ALL of these adventures has started. I mention he will be staying with us for a few days. "That's fine Mark. I trust your judgment."
There'll be no strings to bind your hands
Not if my love can't bind your heart.
And there's no need to take a stand
For it was I who chose to start.
I see no need to take me home,
I'm old enough to face the dawn.
Not if my love can't bind your heart.
And there's no need to take a stand
For it was I who chose to start.
I see no need to take me home,
I'm old enough to face the dawn.
Just call me angel of the morning Angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning Angel
Then slowly turn away from me.
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning Angel
Then slowly turn away from me.
Maybe the sun's light will be dim
And it won't matter anyhow.
If morning's echo says we ve sinned,
Well, it was what I wanted now.
And if we're the victims of the night,
I won't be blinded by light.
And it won't matter anyhow.
If morning's echo says we ve sinned,
Well, it was what I wanted now.
And if we're the victims of the night,
I won't be blinded by light.
Just call me angel of the morning Angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning Angel
Then slowly turn away,
I won't beg you to stay with me
Through the tears of the day,
Of the years, baby baby baby.
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just call me angel of the morning Angel
Then slowly turn away,
I won't beg you to stay with me
Through the tears of the day,
Of the years, baby baby baby.
Just call me angel of the morning Angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.
