11-11-2010 Ceremony in Barrington, IL

11-11-2010 Ceremony in Barrington, IL

We, the assembled throng recited the Pledge of Allegiance:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Then a prayer was read:
Veterans Day Prayer,
Almighty God, Father of us all!  We, thy servants, turn to thee for continuance of they blessings upon us, thou who hath spared us veterans from the grasp of our enemies, grant us the full understandings of they precious comfort.
We thank thee for the privileges of life and the blessings we enjoy through thy graciousness in our country, the land in which we are given the freedom of speech, religion and thy pursuit of happiness.  Assist us to know thee better and that thou art the God of the universe and our ideal.
In they mercy, may we the living find out peace.  Grant us from above, this day the challenges of high endeavor, the beauty of a humble spirit, the strong courage and will, without exertion, to continue to glorify thee; praise thee and love thee to the end of time.  Amen.

Paul Corwin
VFW Post Commander

As we, the assembled throng, held our hands over our hearts, and listened, silently, reverently, remembering Jimmie Hockett and others who had given their lives, for flag, honor, country.
